Are you the type of person who likes to press snooze on the alarm clock to just enjoy a few moments more of unconsciousness?
Waking up is usually associated with a new day. Yesterday is past and the day before us a blank page of unlimited possibilities. Sometimes we can be hesitant to face the unknown challenges of a new day and it’s tempting to just hit snooze one.more.time.
Or have you ever had a rude awakening? A loud thunderbolt, a piercing scream or reverberating crash that jolted you from your unconscious state into a hyper vigilant emotionally charged state that led you to quickly draw incorrect conclusions as to the source of the alarming sound.
A few years after our boys had flown the coop Luis and I were home alone with the bedroom door closed. In the middle of the night we were abruptly awakened from a deep sleep by the sounds of a knocking on our bedroom door. We were home alone… or so we thought. In those first moments from awakening to fully conscious our hearts began pounding and our minds quickly made assumptions to which our bodies responded. Within seconds Luis told me to get in the bathroom and close the door as he went commando (literally) to grab his gun. I grabbed some clothes and moved toward the bathroom and as we both stood paralyzed, our minds racing, there was deafening silence then…knock, knock, knock. As our consciousness increased we came to the realization that someone who would bother to knock most likely wasn’t looking to harm us. So Luis said, “Who is it?” And from the window outside our bedroom we heard our 30-year-old son, Nilson, say, “Papi, it’s me.”
We try not to keep our phones in the bedroom at night and the ringer on the home phone had been turned off. There was a family emergency and our first born son had come to not only inform us but call us to respond and intercede.
“Wake up! Open your eyes! Beautiful Zion put on your majestic strength! Jerusalem, the sacred city, put on your glory garments! Never again will the unclean enter your gates! Arise and shake off your dust! Sit enthroned, Jerusalem! Break off your shackles of bondage from your neck, you captive daughter of Zion!” Isaiah 52:1-2 TPT
Chapter 51 verse 7 says “Rouse yourselves, rouse yourselves” and Chapter 52 starts with “Wake up, wake up”. I’ve learned that when God says anything twice He means business. He is calling the people into consciousness of God’s presence and blessing in their lives. He instructs them to wake up and clothe yourself in strength, put on your beautiful clothes. He tells them to rise from the dust, sit in a place of honor and loose yourself from the bonds of slavery that have been around your neck. In verse 11 He says “Move on, move on go out from there” instructing them to leave the old ways of thinking and living and step into the new day or season and the freedom and deliverance that is theirs.
This chapter and these verses are rich with revelation of truth that once grasped will transform the experience of the reader and move them from what they once knew to be true about themselves to who God has redeemed them to be. Isaiah is proclaiming to the people the reality of the deliverance God has brought them into. Isaiah is announcing a new season has come which requires a shift or change in how they see, think and feel. It’s time to wake up to a new day. It’s time to shake off the dust of shame and reproach. The amplified version says “Arise” get up, remove the chains of slavery which I have loosed and take your seat in a place of honor.
This typifies our salvation experience and all that is available to us in Jesus; salvation, deliverance, freedom from bondage and a position or seat of righteousness (Ephesians 2:6). At the moment of salvation all of this is available to us, but we must become conscious of and step into the experience of it. We must renew our mind with the truth of our present reality. Old things have passed away behold all is new.
Salvation and the fullness of God is a complete package of blessing that we are in a continual process of unwrapping and appropriating in our life. His mercies are new every morning.
Just a few chapters later after the awakening we see the call to arise.
“ARISE [from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you–rise to a new life]! Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord), for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you! For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and dense darkness [all] peoples, but the Lord shall arise upon you, and His glory shall be seen on you. Isaiah 60:1-2 AMPC
As we end this decade and move into what some are calling a new era I sense Jesus has been rousing His bride, the church, to awaken to take their rightful place at His side clothed in His glory. We must rise from shame to a place of honor as legitimate sons of Almighty Father God, loose ourselves from the slavery of old ways of thinking and live from our new position and life in Christ.
Darkness is indeed covering the earth and it’s time for His body to arise, shine and fill the earth with His glory as the waters cover the sea.
In the next chapter we see the power of Jesus presence on earth.
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed and qualified me to preach the Gospel of good tidings to the meek, the poor, and afflicted; He has sent me to bind up and heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the [physical and spiritual] captives and the opening of the prison and of the eyes to those who are bound, To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord [the year of His favor] and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, To grant [consolation and joy] to those who mourn in Zion–to give them an ornament (a garland or diadem) of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment [expressive] of praise instead of a heavy, burdened, and failing spirit–that they may be called oaks of righteousness [lofty, strong, and magnificent, distinguished for uprightness, justice, and right standing with God], the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified. And they shall rebuild the ancient ruins; they shall raise up the former desolations and renew the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations. Isaiah 61:1-4 AMPC
Jesus didn’t come from heaven to earth to die a cruel death on the cross so we could all behave better and go to heaven one day when we die. He came to reconnect us to the Father making us legitimate sons of God. We are His body and as such His anointing is our anointing. It is time for the church, Christ’s body, to awaken to their identity and arise with their authority. As verse 2 of Isaiah 52 says Arise and shake off your dust! Sit enthroned, Jerusalem! Break off your shackles of bondage from your neck, you captive daughter of Zion!”
We’ve been taken captive, fallen asleep and grown unconscious through the constant drone of false beliefs or LIES told with enough confidence and passion to manipulate the minds of the culture into an unconsciousness of God’s holy righteous standards. In scripture, garments are often symbolic of the state of one’s soul. It’s time to wake up and grab the clothing of salvation our robes of righteousness, garments of praise, break off the shackles that bind us and exchange the shame, fear, anxiety and doubt for legitimacy, love, peace, faith and joy.
“I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding or a bride with her jewels. The Sovereign Lord will show his justice to the nations of the world. Everyone will praise him! His righteousness will be like a garden in early spring, with plants springing up everywhere.” Isaiah 61:10-11 NLT
It’s a new day. The time of lying dormant has past, the fields are ripe with harvest. It’s a new season.
If you’ve ever had a loss in your life of someone special, a job, a home or any thing that has become a “normal” part of your life then you understand that waking up to a new day can feel chaotic as you face the challenge of the unknown. Adjusting to a “new normal” can require a challenging process of changing the way you think and live. We need our minds renewed to the truth that will destroy the lies we have come to call truth. We need our hearts awakened to intimacy with our Father and the power of our connection as the bride of He who has the Name above all names which now is our Name. We need the creative power of the Holy Spirit to breathe life on His Words.
God speaks and creative miracles happen. Chaos is brought into order. We are made in the image of God. We are speaking spirits with the power of the Holy Spirit and authority in Jesus Name. As we speak to the chaos it will bring order to chaos and light to the dark as it did when God spoke in Genesis 1.
I remember in high school or college a popular song by Susan Ashton, Living in the Land of Nod. It talked about the church being sound asleep not realizing the evil in our camp sometimes snoring so loud we can’t hear the Lion roar.
We are being awakened from a deep sleep by the Son. Just as my husband and I were awakened by our son to intercede for a family emergency.
Intercede means to intervene on behalf of another.
Intervene means to come in or between by way of hindrance or modification
i.e. to interfere with the outcome or course especially of a condition or process
He’s awakening His body to arise and shine to put on our majestic garments and sit enthroned. Every member of His Body coordinated together under the instructions of His Headship. He is mobilizing us so that His Kingdom can come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven and as Isaiah 52:10 says … All the ends of the earth will see the victory of our God.” Isaiah 52:10 NLT
Some of us are sound asleep and need to give attention to the alarm that is sounding while others of us have been feeling the frustration and uncomfortableness of coming into consciousness and an unknown season, but It’s Time to Arise!
Let’s not continue to hit snooze or be abruptly awakened and thrown off by the lying assumptions that come from the jolt of consciousness that is coming. It’s time to GET UP! Arise, be aroused by the voice of the Son calling us to intercede and decree the heart and will of the Father, shattering lies with truth and eliminating the darkness with the light of His glory.
