Thanks for joining me as I meditate out loud on Isaiah 61:3-4. This is part 2 of 4.
Redemption for the Nations
Part 2 of 4
…so that they will be called oaks of righteousness planted by Adonai, in which he takes pride.4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins, restore sites long destroyed; they will renew the ruined cities, destroyed many generations ago.
Isaiah 61:3c,4 CJB
In verses 1-3 of Isaiah 61 we see redemption provides salvation, healing, freedom, protection and favor for all those who receive this free gift. This is the gift that just keeps on giving. Redemption not only provides forgiveness and deliverance, but also abundant life in Christ. Verse 3 says “so that they will be called oaks of righteousness” Redemption establishes us as noble oaks of righteousness. Redemption results in purpose that brings glory to God through our lives. Verse 4 says “They will”. Who will? The oaks of righteousness will. Will what? They will
- Rebuild ancient ruins
- Restore sites long destroyed
- Renew ruined cities
Only life can produce life. Through Abraham’s seed a nation was born and grew through the generations to become cities of people and ultimately a nation. One person or a small acorn planted and watered by God brings forth a towering oak that yields hundreds of acorns and a generation of righteous oaks producing an ever-increasing harvest.
I would like to submit that to rebuild the ruins means to partner with God to save, free, heal and deliver individuals or acorns. I would suggest that “sites” in the passage refers to families. The NLT version says They shall raise up the former desolations…The desolations of many generations. Generations of families in desolation and destruction that have been held captivity by the enemy. So many desolate generations that they have grown into entire cities of ruined broken people and families driving culture and determining the direction of nations.
Jesus is the head of His body (the church) on earth. Verses 1 to 3 says Jesus was anointed to redeem and as His body we have the anointing to facilitate all that redemption provides and partner with Him to restore every person, family, city and nation to the Father. He redeems, we restore. Verse 4 says we are the oaks of righteousness that will rebuild the ancient ruins, restore the desolate families and renew ruined cities.
Jesus parting words were to disciple and equip the nations and in Psalms 2 He says “Ask me to give you the nations and I will do it, and they shall become your legacy. Your domain will stretch to the ends of the earth.” Psalms 2:8 TPT
God’s heart is for nations. Nations is defined as a large body of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory. Just as the nation of Israel was formed from the seed of Abraham all nations are comprised of generations of families who over time multiplied and grew so big they became cities that expanded out to form a nation.
This is such an exciting revelation to know that Jesus gift of redemption wasn’t just for me alone, but for nations! Jesus called Lazarus forth from the dead then instructed His disciples to unwrap Him. He wants each member of His body coordinated under His Headship to join Him in reconciling the nations back to the Father.
You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
1 Peter 2:9 NLT
We are a nation of priest and kings who have been called out of darkness into light so that we can shine His light allowing individuals, families, cities and nations in darkness to see the glory of God.
“Arise, shine; for your light has come, And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. 2 “For behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; But the Lord will rise upon you And His glory will appear upon you. 3 “Nations will come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising. Isaiah 60:1-3 NASB
Father, you are a good Father. Remove the noise and distraction that keep us from hearing the pulse of your heart’s desire is for families to be saved, freed, healed and reconciled to You. I want to be a true disciple that abides in your Word. Apart from you I can do nothing. Help me to become a strong, noble, wise tree of righteousness that brings glory to you by allowing your light to shine through me to see families healed and lived transformed in the power of God. May the nations be my legacy. In Jesus Name, Amen.
